U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has posted "A Parent Guide to State and Local Report Cards" on the U.S. Department of Education's (USED) website.
The document is intended to help parents and families understand the information provided in the State and Local Report Cards required under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). For additional details, you can find USED's press release here.
"A Parent Guide to State and Local Report Cards" is formatted as thirteen slides with content and an additional three slides containing supplementary information. The content slides cover topics related to information that must be reported to the public on Report Cards and how that is to be reported. It includes:
- Education Spending
- Student Achievement
- Graduation Rates
- Accountability
- School Environment
- Teacher Qualifications
Other information includes:
- An Introduction
- Information on Parent Engagement related to Report Cards;
- Information on Accessibility and Availability, or access to Report Cards; and
- Some example information regarding Report Cards from Virginia and Ohio.
