ESSA RoadMaps: What You Need to Know for ESSA Compliance

TransACT RoadMaps are a compliance and guidance component of TransACT Parent Notices subscriptions that existing subscribers can access at any time. RoadMaps use a series of yes/no questions to guide educators through the process of determining which parent notices are required to send out in a particular time period or situation. This helps educators to create a list of notices they need based on the unique characteristics of their school and/or school district. RoadMaps are a helpful, time-saving compliance tool for:

• Rare or infrequent situations that require specific communications (students experiencing homelessness, foster care students, violent criminal offense in school or on school grounds) 
• People who are new to their roles in federal programs
• Documentation to provide in the event of a monitoring visit

The ESSA RoadMaps for TransACT Parent Notices were updated in September 2017 to include a time-saving introductory slide that instructs teachers and administrators on information they will need to gather in order to determine their compliance requirements under ESSA. 

In order to meet our mission to provide valuable compliance resources which help administrators save time and reduce costs, TransACT formed an ESSA National Advisory Board (NAB) composed of approximately 50 State and District administrators. The ESSA National Advisory Board works to:

• Identify the notices that are necessary to meet compliance requirements for ESSA
• Ensure that the content of notices meet compliance requirements
• Provide feedback on TransACT’s products and services
• Makes recommendations on new features that can support compliance throughout states and districts.

Feedback from the NAB showed that it was necessary for someone completing a RoadMap to know what information to gather in order to be able to answer all the RoadMap’s questions. In response to this issue TransACT’s ESSA RoadMaps were updated in September of 2017 to provide this guidance. The first slide of the ESSA Road Maps now include information on what you need to complete before beginning the Road Map. 

In addition to the update to RoadMaps, there is now a new RoadMap. Not all states have chosen to use their Title I funds to implement Direct Student Services, but for those districts in states that have, the Direct Student Services RoadMap is now available.
