The 2016-2017 school year is a transition year between the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which goes into full effect in 2017-2018. The first implementation deadline was October 1, 2016, and it related to communication regarding students and families experiencing homelessness. Highly Qualified Status Notifications under the transition to ESSA: No longer enforced for teachers; still required for paraprofessionals

In December last year, President Obama signed into law the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). ESSA National Advisory Board (NAB) Expands ESEA Parent Notice Collection

The TransACT ESSA National Advisory Board (NAB) was formed in March this year. The purpose of the ESSA NAB is to identify the parent notices that are required, necessary, and allowable to implement the mandates of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and to help craft and review the content of these notices. The first meeting of the ESSA NAB was in March and today we have nearly 50 State and District education leaders participating in this work to ensure that our parent notices are comprehensive, up-to-date, legally compliant, and aligned to ESSA requirements.
